Customer Locks Lainey In
Her shift becomes dangerous when a magnetic customer asks her to help choose unforgettable armor
Lainey knows lingerie changes people. That is the whole business model, really.
Silk and lace stitched together with impossible lighting and dangerously persuasive mirrors.
Humanity wrapped insecurity in satin and sold it back at seventy-two dollars a set—capitalism with underwire.
But she didn’t expect the midnight customer.
The mall was almost closed when the woman appeared. Tall with slow confidence. Beauty that made conversations stumble mid-sentence.
She walked into the empty Victoria’s Secret store like she already owned every secret hanging from the walls.
“I need something unforgettable,” she said softly.
Not sexy or pretty. Unforgettable.
Lainey should’ve pointed her toward the new arrivals and moved on. Instead, something about the woman’s gaze hooked into her like a loose thread catching on lace.
Together they drifted through the store beneath dim pink lights while closing music echoed overhead.
Black satin. Wine-red lace. Delicate gold straps that looked more like jewelry than clothing.
Every piece the woman chose was intentional… Like she wasn’t shopping for just any night.
The woman held up a deep emerald set against Lainey’s chest and smiled.
“This color would ruin someone’s self-control on you.”
The words landed too softly to be harmless.
Lainey laughed it off. Tried to, anyway. But the fitting rooms suddenly felt warmer, smaller, and charged.
And when the woman disappeared behind the velvet curtain, she asked only one thing… “Stay nearby, Lainey. I may need a second opinion.”
A simple request, yes, but a dangerous one. Because Lainey was starting to realize the real risk of working in lingerie wasn’t temptation.
She was becoming part of someone else’s fantasy without even noticing it.
The rest of the night doesn’t stay innocent.
The fitting room curtain closes. The teasing turns dangerous. And Lainey discovers that some women don’t shop for lingerie because they want attention.
They shop because they already know exactly what they’re capable of doing to someone.
